Introduction: 

Through the University of Arizona South, you can complete a Bachelor of Science, Computer Science Major. The purpose of the major is to provide both depth and breadth in computer science courses, and senior electives. This provides all students with a solid foundation in computer science, and accommodates the special interests of the individual students.

Admission Criteria: 

Personnel at UA South are qualified to help you plan your program and answer questions about the computer science curriculum. Consult with your advisor for details.

You may complete your first two years of school at a local community college, such as Cochise College or Pima Community College.

After completion of two CS courses at UA South, you may complete an application to the CS Major.

You will take about 28 units of course work in upper-division computer science.

Completing a minor is optional. Mathematics is a popular choice of minor. Given the math prerequisites, only three additional courses are required to complete a math minor.

Admission Process:

  1. Meet with an advisor:
  2. Complete general education requirements and Advanced Standing requirements.
    • Complete an Associate of Science - Computer Science through Cochise College or another community college
    • Complete the UA general education requirements and pre-major courses through course work from UA Tucson or through transfer from other institutions.
  3. Complete lower-division major requirements and prerequisites.
    • Introduction to Computer Science: CSC 127A and CSC 127B
    • Calculus I and II
    • Discrete Mathematics
  4. Apply for admission to The University of Arizona.
  5. Apply for admission to the CS Major
    • 3.0 overall GPA
    • B's or better in all math and CS courses (from all institutions)
  6. Complete upper-division course work for the B.S., Computer Science Major.
    • CSCV 335, CSCV 345 and CSCV 352
    • One of: CSCV 372, CSCV 422 or CSCV 460
    • One of: CSCV 445 or CSCV 473
    • One of: CSCV 452 or CSCV 453
    • Two electives from CSCV 400 - CSCV 489
  7. Complete upper-division electives.

Students need at least 120 units to graduate; a minimum of 42 units must be upper-division. A maximum of 64 units community college course work can be applied to University degree programs. Please consult the UA General Catalog for complete details regarding degree and graduation requirements.
